Where could you fit in?

As Senior Copywriter, your mission will be to develop, design, and evangelize JM's approach to editorial, voice, and messaging for strategies for our clients, our ventures, and our own studio. You will be Josephmark's messaging custodian across all our touchpoints, from venture to marketing, UX, social, blog, and brand strategies.

You’re a word nerd and a bookworm, with an all-consuming passion for building the perfect sentence. With a strong background in copywriting for brand or advertising, you can interpret project needs across a range of editorial, brand and product applications. You live, breathe, eat and delete all things language, resulting in flawless copy that resonates. As we're a venture studio with an ever-growing portfolio of brands, you're versatile in writing for chalk-and-cheese-different tones of voice. Bringing brands to life with incredible storytelling, your formidable knack in framing problems is outweighed only by your ability to make people feel deeply connected to their solutions. Your words will stimulate conversation, entice clients, or simply make JM shine. Often, they’ll do all three.

In this role you will:

  • Direct and execute copywriting and content strategy across Brand Design, Product, UI/UX, and Venture Strategy
  • Create work that has impact - achieving both internal and external recognition or praise from clients, users, and the industry
  • Lead large projects (and multitask across them) confidently and supportively
  • Uplift and mentor a junior copywriter to help them grow and thrive
  • Find your flow and optimise processes to ensure your projects come in on or under budget, on time, every time

You should have:

  • 5+ years copywriting experience
  • a diverse portfolio of spot-on brand copy you've written over your career to date
  • the ability to facilitate client workshops and meetings like a pro
  • the capability to translate complexity into clear, concise and human content in distinctly different TOVs
  • up-to-date knowledge of the venture-related industries and tech landscape

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve worked on at JM? Wheel of Foreplay. Self-explanatory.

How long have you been in the industry for? I’ve been a working content writer for about 8 years now.

What’s the best thing about working at JM? The trust and integrity. Everyone holds themselves (and each other) accountable for delivering the goods, learning fast and performing at their best. It’s energising. If you take risks, try new things and show JM what you’re made of, JM will show you right back.

What’s the worst thing about working at JM? When you’re working in a growing venture studio, there’s this constant flow of really awesome opportunities piling up around you, all of the time. Content ideas I’d love to bring to life, projects I’d love to do rather than delegate, internal initiatives I’d love to drive… it pains me to not take every single one of them up! In saying that, “too many great opportunities” is a problem I’ll always want to have – and I’m grateful to have become a disciplined prioritiser.

What’s something people might not know about working in content and marketing at JM? You have to know how to do a lot with a little! Scrappy resourcefulness will get you such a long way. Waiting for permission usually won’t.

What advice do you have for anyone looking to work in content? If you’re based in Brisbane like me, get comfy with wearing a lot of hats at once. The word ‘content’ covers all manner of things in a growing city, so embrace the avalanche and get acquainted with as many of them as you can.
